Your Dinghy

Your dinghy is the way you get around when off the big boat.  To use a camper analogy it is the little car you tow around behind your RV.  When you are in the St John National Park Mooring field your dinghy gets you to shore, or to the dinghy dock in Cruz Bay for groceries or a night out at the restaurant.  When you want to go snorkeling or diving in Aruba or Bonaire you can take your dingy from your boat in the mooring field to the dive sites.  It is your "car" and how you get around and back and forth to things ashore.

Highfield Classic 360 Dinghy with 25hp Yamaha

Highfield Classic 360

Highfield Classic 360  We picked this dinghy to support diving and snorkeling.  Our previous dinghy had the bench seat with a steering wheel.  It looks cool, but It took up too much space and always caused issues with balance and trim. This dinghy was more simple and more useful.

25 HP is more than enough power to move you quickly through the water.  Yamaha F25 Review

Two Position Lifting Harness

The dinghy gets sun protection from the Solar Panels much like a carport at your house.  Our dinghy does not spend the night in the water.  That accomplishes two things: (1) no marine growth on the bottom, (2) keeps our dinghy safe from theft or damage.  The low position for our lifting harness gets the dinghy up to rail height and that keeps it out of the water, but also out of our view (pictured).  The high position brings the dinghy up to the top of the davits.  That puts it higher out of the water and better positioned for heavier seas, but it obstructs our view aft from the cockpit.

DaNard Dinghy Wheels

Dinghy Wheels The DaNard Dinghy wheels are another example of smarter not harder.  When you come into a beach you flip the wheels down and easily beach your dinghy above the high water mark.  Avoid the strain of dragging your dinghy across the sand or back off the beach when the tide has dropped.

Dinghy Ladder

Dinghy Ladder Getting in to your dinghy after snorkeling or diving can be a challenge.  Most dinghy ladders are flimsy or not well attached and they roll under the dinghy instead of supporting you.  The Armstrong Dinghy Ladders are solid.
