Safety Gear

Our viking life raft is vacuum packed and has a three year recertification schedule.  It was repacked and certified in April 2024.

Our main EPIRB is mounted next to the life raft on the seat back of our roof top lounge.  It is installed to activate hydrostaticly if the boat sinks or it can be removed from its rack and activated manually

We have a secondary handheld EPIRB that is kept with other safety equipment in our dinghy.  It can act as a backup on our big boat or be used in an Emergency in the dinghy

A rarely chosen option offered by Leopard is for engine compartment automatic fire suppression.  We have made a deliberate choice over the years to spare no expense in safety related items.  Consequently we selected the option to have fire suppression systems added in each engine compartment.

In addition to the engine compartment automated fire suppression we have 5 standard fire extinguishers on board:

We carry 6 off-shore lifejackets on Semper Fi

There are single and double tethers for all life jackets

Continuing with the "spare no expense for safety" we have Personal Locator Beacons  (PLB) with each life jacket.  The PLB transmit via VHF to the AIS on board and plot anyone overboard as a "ship".  If you think about how hard it is to locate anyone overboard and then add night or foul weather and although expensive these beacons could be life savers.

Each life jacket is equipped with a strobe light in addition the the PLB. The ability to locate anyone overboard cannot be overemphasized.

We carry two handheld waterproof VHF radios.  One is kept in the storage area of the dinghy.  Hard earned lessons have taught us to make sure your dinghy is equipped to respond to emergencies.

We keep a handheld GPS as backup to our navigation system and we carry it in our dinghy along with our secondary EPIRB, handheld VHF, flashlight and water.
